Plucked Wins Best Horror Feature at Garden State Film Festival World Premiere
The film's first public screening in Asbury Park ends with the festival's top feature prize.
ASBURY PARK, NJ — Plucked had its World Premiere at the Garden State Film Festival this weekend and took home the festival's award for Best Horror Feature Film. The screening was the film's first public presentation anywhere. Co-directors Usher Morgan and Katie Vincent attended with members of the cast and took audience questions following the screening.
“You spend years guessing where an audience will laugh, and then you sit in the back of a full room and find out,” said Morgan. “They laughed in places we didn't expect and went dead silent in the places we hoped they would. That's the movie working.”
Set in Gilded Age New York, Plucked follows Katherine Greene (Vincent), a woman who resolves to divorce her emotionally unstable husband in 1886. When her husband Peter (Jared Canfield) learns of her intentions on the night of an important dinner party, a polite and civilized evening spirals into chaos, jealousy and escalating revenge.
The film also stars Catherine Curtin (Orange Is the New Black, Stranger Things), J. Anthony Crane (Succession, Outer Banks), Bryant Carroll and Susan Gallagher, with cinematography by Giuseppe Masi.
Plucked continues its 2026 festival run, with a theatrical release to be announced. Screeners and press materials are available on request.
